Magi pulls much of its inspiration from people and themes from the story 1001 Arabian Nights. In this world there are dungeons that are magic castles filled with treasure and traps. Each is the lair for a djinn. Then, there are those who can use Rukh an energy the comes from living things. These beings are known as magi. Three unlikely people, Aladdin, Alibaba, and Morgiana meet and forge an unbreakable friendship and go on adventures together.
If you’re looking for something more light hearted and fun, this is a good anime for you. It has a very interesting story and world, but isn’t super serious or dark. The three main characters are a lot of fun and show what it means to really care about another person.
Yona of the Dawn

Yona is the sole princess of Kouka until she was on the verge of her 16th birthday. The man she had hoped to marry one day kills her father and plans to take the throne forcing her and her personal guard to flee. She eventually decides she will find the legendary Crimson Dragon King and his four dragon warriors that were said to have united the kingdom 2000 years ago. The question is, even if she finds these mythical people, will she convince them to help her save her kingdom?
I would recommend this anime to people who like a really good strong female lead (don’t judge her from the first episode) as well as those who like more complex storylines. It has many elements that remind me of more traditional fantasy stories. There is intrigue and lots of adventure.
Is It Wrong to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon?

This series takes place in a world full of gods who grant powers to people who join their familia. These few become adventurers that travel into the dungeon with these powers to fight monsters and becoming stronger. Bell Cranel is one such adventurer. The only member of the goddess Hestia’s familia. He doesn’t seem like much, but he will never give up on trying to improve and continue deeper into the dungeon.
If you couldn’t tell by the title, this anime is very light-hearted. All of the characters are a lot of fun and there is plenty of comedy. Bell is definitely an underdog who is constantly looked down upon, but his spirit remains constant as he works to become a stronger better version of himself.
Seven Deadly Sins

Seven Deadly Sins is a very engaging story of good against evil. There is a group of powerful warriors who all have different abilities. They were exiled from the kingdom they once protected and scattered themselves to hide from the bounties on their heads. However, the kingdom has been taken over, so the youngest princess, named Elizabeth, ventures out in order to find this group to save her people. She is on the hunt for the seven deadly sins.
This anime has it all. There are amazing characters to fall in love with, a great story that unfolds as it progresses, lots of adventure, and fantastic magic. I really enjoy many of the unique labels and ideas that the author uses. It really makes you question what it means to be good and evil.
Fairy Tail

This series focuses on several characters all in a single wizard’s guild called Fairytail. In this guild the members apply to take paid jobs that require magical aid. There are many adventures and story arcs that the characters go through that help develop them and change them. Some arcs are quite serious and long while others are more light-hearted and shorter. I enjoy all of the characters as well as the world that the creator has built. The magic is very interesting and the guild dynamic is interesting especially when you meet people from other guilds.
I’m sure you are looking at that episode count and gulping, but this anime is definitely worth watching. It takes a few episodes to get going, but once it does, it is a really great fantasy. There are lots of great characters and many story arcs that grow and develop each of them. The way magic works is very interesting as well as the concept of the guilds. If the episode count is deterring you from wanting to start, it doesn’t have to be watched all at once. There are easy stopping places after each major story arc to take a break and start again when you wish to continue.
