Do You Like the Dresden Files?
Here are five series recommendations if you like the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. 1.Alex Verus by Benedict Jacka -I think Harry Dresden would like Alex Verus. The Alex Verus series is a really good series to try if you like the Dresden Files because they are similar stories. In fact, they are so similar in concept that Jacka gives a nod to Harry Dresden in the first book of the series by referencing a wizard who advertises under the yellow pages. In this series, Alex Verus is a wizard who uses his magic to see into the future. He runs a magic shop in London, and even though he…

Top 5 Fantasy Books of 2022
This is a list of my favorite five books that were released in 2022. I’d love to hear what your favorites were. 1. Legends & Lattes by: Travis Baldree Legends & Lattes was my favorite book from last year. It is truly an amazingly written feel good fantasy story. It is a fun read with great characters and yummy descriptions of food. This book is a one novel story. It is a relaxing enjoyable read. And, if you’re like me, you’ll hope to see all these characters again in a future novel. Plus, the fantasy elements really just fit well with the world Baldree created. Check out my written review…

Stories Steeped in Mythology
1. The Witch’s Heart by Genevieve Gornichec Angrboda is a witch in hiding. She survived being burned not once, not twice, but three times. Now she spends her time living in a cave at the edge of Jotunheim. Only a precious few know where she currently resides, another giantess who helps her market her potions for supplies and the giant who brought her lost heart back to her. Loki, the most mischievous god of them all, visits Angrboda now and again. Maybe, something happened for both of them the day he brought her back her heart. Mythology Type: Norse This book is great for anyone who is less familiar with…

Favorite Books Discovered in 2021
1. A Discovery of Witches By: Deborah Harkness I discovered this book series because of the television show that is an adaption of the book series. I definitely recommend it to anyone who loves urban fantasy, vampires, magic, and romance. Harkness has a great writing style that really draws in the reader, and her storytelling is fantastic. If you’re wanting an adventure with a steamy romance and lots of danger, you should check this trilogy out along with its tv show adaption. 2. The Eye of the World By: Robert Jordan I discovered this book thanks to the fans of the Wheel of Time series on the FFF discord. I…

Best Fantasy Books Released in 2021
1. The Forever Sea By Joshua Phillip Johnson This book was my favorite of the year. It is filled with adventure, magic, and pirates. It was written by a new author with this being his first book. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves high fantasy and is looking for an exciting adventure that takes place on a sea of prairie grass. I am anxiously waiting for the next book of this series to be released. If you have read this book, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it as well. If you haven’t, you are welcome to read my review of it for more of my thoughts.…

Running with Werewolves
For those of you looking for a werewolf-oriented series I would recommend: -Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs If you want werewolves, but don’t want the main character to actually be one, then the Mercy Thompson series is the way to go. At a full moon: Well technically Mercy is a coyote, not a werewolf, but her neighbor is the local alpha. He definitely gets furry at the full moon. Just make sure you’re not too near him when he does. This story is very close to a specific werewolf pack. Adam Hampton is the alpha of the pack that is located in Mercy’s, the main character’s, area. I find the…

Series with Deep Complex Plots
#1. The Darksword Trilogy by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman In a world where having magic is a requirement to be alive, a baby with no magical aptitude is considered to be born dead. No matter how healthy the newborn, the parents will have no problems leaving the child to die. They are doing nothing wrong since it is already ‘dead’. Joram was one such baby left for nature to claim, but he survives. He spends his life fooling those around him until he has no choice but to flee. He stumbles upon a forbidden practice called science and those that practice it. Insight: Religion has many sides to it.…

Great Adventures in Short Packages
Note: I classify a short series as six books or less. #1. The Furies of Calderon by Jim Butcher Tavi has always felt different. He lives in a world where everyone has a fury, the ability to manipulate some kind of element. He has been born with no furies. He lives an ordinary life, or at least, he did. He manages to get himself sucked into an adventure that will change his life and those of the people around him. Time Commitment: 100% worth it! Though this series is at six books, it is the perfect length for the story and doesn’t feel like a long-time commitment.  This series is…

One World Is Not Enough
For those who like to read books with multiple worlds or multiverses I recommend: -Death Gate Cycle If you want a set of worlds that are sophisticated, different, and that give you new characters and adventures with each book, the Death Gate Cycle series should be next on your list Traveling Method: You might be insane trying to travel through Death’s Gate. I hope you make it where you’re trying to go. This series has five full worlds that are so complex and detailed that it is amazing that Weis and Hickman have seamlessly woven them into one universe. Each book allows the reader to experience yet another world. Each…

Awesome Magic Users
For those who like to read fantasy stories with awesome magic users I recommend: -Dresden Files: Harry Dresden If you want a wizard who knows he’s not the most powerful but is smart enough to strategize around his weaknesses, Harry Dresden is your guy. Magic Type: When you’re on his bad side, he might set you on fire. Harry is definitely an amazing magic user, but that isn’t the only thing that makes him stand out. He knows his strengths and his weaknesses, so he uses all the techniques he can to win, even if it isn’t magic. He’s a caring guy who always puts himself into danger to protect…
